LGs KU990 a.k.a. Viewty is a phone that should get instant attention owing to its rather unique looks. Some may love it, some may hate it-but everyone will notice it. We found the chrome strips down the side and the rear of the phone pretty atrocious-in a bad way. Feature wise the Viewty has all the goodiesdecent ergonomics, good build quality and a 5 megapixel camera that actually shoots videos in up to VGA (640 x 480 pixels) resolution. The Viewty also supports WMV and DivX video playback, some what of a rarity. A large 3 inch screen dominates proceedings although the Viewty does (shockingly!) without WLAN, and any sort of keypad, or menu buttons, save one very iPhone like menu button. Sad to say device navigation isn't really helped by this lack of interface.
The touchscreen does remedy things but finger touch control isn't as good as we'd have liked (the iPod Touch spoilt us silly). The stylus is a saviour of.sorts. LGs menu system is reasonably intuitive, and we found no noteworthy complaint. It loses out in terms of performance to the two shining Nokias, in nearly every test, and we'd like to see improvements in the music player quality, and signal quality tests. As a camera phone the Viewty is good, but not as good as the other five megapixel offerings available. If you have the moolah, spend a little more and get one of the two above.
