WinMo's a stalwart it's held its ground against all the 'Berry and Symbian invaders of the world. How, don't ask, but here's a new beefed-up WinMo offering by Asus for top-dog execs. To start off with the good things, this communicator is a heck of a looker. When you take a look at the phone's gun-metal finish, curved edges, and rock-solid build, you'll wonder whether it was wrought by the same little elfish hands that put together the Apple iPhone. The keypad for instance is terribly comfortable for typing short messages or dialing numbers.

If you need to do more exhaustive typing though, open up the clamshell for better results. Housed underneath is a full QWERTY keyboard that's spacious and easy to use. The buttons sport good relief and are backlit so typing in the dark is a piece of cake. There's also a directional pad for navigating the menus, a dedicated row of number keys, and shortcut buttons for accessing your mail, contacts, and internet browser. The somewhat smallish 2.6inch 400X240 internal screen is a bit of a letdown though. For a communicator phone, you'd probably expect a much larger and wider display but this one is barely bigger than the external screen! Also, since the phone runs WinMo 6.0 Standard, touchy-feely-ness gets the pink slip. Overall though, Asus gets accolades for coughing up a device that both looks and works great.

The phone's pretty loaded in the tech department you get 3G, 3.6-meg HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, but no GPS. Battery life at around two days is not bad either. Software-wise, there's a Remote Presenter app for controlling presentations over Bluetooth, and a streaming multimedia player. For email buffs, BlackBerry Connect 4.0 is also supported on this phone and can be downloaded for free on the Asus. While WinMo is not our cup of tea, this Asus communicator is a stunning phone that's zippy to use and comes with some nifty features packed in. The small internal screen and lack of GPS do get our goats but the phone's good looks, build.
