Remember the Viewty, LG's attempt at an iPhone killer? The Viewty Smart is its latest reincarnation, and is actually closer to the Arena in many ways, Sporting a beefier 8-meg snapper. it comes with the same S-class UI we saw in the Arena. albeit with a thinner chassis. sadly made of plastic and not metal. The phone resembles a compact digicam if you happen to take a look at the rear. However. the camera lens is exposed to the elements. making it prone to scratches and smudges. That aside. the phone is loaded with everything except a toaster: large 3-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi. A-GPS. motion sensor. FM radio. DivX support. and multi-touch for zooming web pages and images. 3.5mm audio jack and voice navigation have gone AWOL, however.
The 3D S-class UI provides four customisable home screens and individually-scrolling rows of yummy looking icons. along with onscreen keyboards for text input. The interface is mostly smooth and intuitive, but text junkies may have an issue texting even with the landscape QWERTY. The virtual keys are too damn tiny for fast typing. and the auto-correct feature is sluggish.
The shooter comes with its own set of frills - face detection. image stabilisation, and even an intelligent shot made. However, they do little to make it a killer cam. The images are a tad grainy, certainly not the best we've seen. DivX support is limited too.
A good, loaded phone to flaunt. but a better camera and preloaded voice navigation with maps would've made it a winner.
