It is not a new or a strange, when the left and the right parts of my brain break into a duel as soon as see a new pair of speakers. But it is one of the rarest situations when the frenzied argument between both sides are ever in accordance with each other. experienced this rare agreement, one fine day when came across the Monitor Audio PL300 a pair of speakers (3-way floorstanding) which can end your quest to find a reproduction unit that appeases both, your ears and eyes. It felt as if was facing a huge wall strong enough to face the strongest blows with ease. The PL300s were accompanied by the Musical Fidelity Superchargers and the Bryston BCDl CD player.
They were precise and pertinent in all aspects when it comes to reproduction of audio be it tonality, musicality, frequency response, soundstaging, imaging, etc. Its robust appearance urged me to find out what lay beneath this huge wall of sound, and so loaded a line up of my favourite CDs and decided to see how the PL300
would hit back. The bass was well extended and swift. They were effectively capable of a subtle airiness to the high frequencies.
For the entire period that was listening to this colossal pair of speakers (and also for a long time after that), what struck me was the pair's ability to deliver an impresively powerful performance. They were more than capable of handling rapid and loud orchestral playing with great authority. Its speed and liveliness are even more remarkable than its sheer depth. The whole experience was just something know will remember for a long time. On top of all that, was tempted to take this mammoth performer home at a reasonable price of Rs 3, 50,000 ....
