A Net book is a net book. But Dell's Latitude 2120 seems a tad different. and comes with features specifically targeted towards the education sector. Clad in a rubberised casing, this netbook comes in black and blue, and is built like the proverbial tank, making it quite bulky. The 6-cell, extended battery also juts out frQm the rear Powered by an Intel Atom N550 dual-core chip running at 1.5GHz. it comes with 2 gigs of RAM, 250 gigs of storage and Intel GMA 3150 graphics, and runs the 32-bit version of Win 7 Pro. Connectivity-wise, it offers the usual - N Wi-Fi, 3 USB 2.0 ports, VGA-out and gigabit Ethernet. but no eSata, USB 3 or HDMI. Heck, there's no Bluetooth either.
There's a webcam atop the lO-inch 1024x600 screen, and you have an option of getting a higher res 1366x768 display. You can also add on touch screen capabilities. Admins can manage software updates centrally and a charging station that can charge multiple netbooks together is also on offer - very useful for schools. The keyboard is extremely good, but is let down by the tiny touch pad and flushed mouse buttons. Performance-wise, the dual-core CPU does make it fast, but not noticeably so. The bigger niggles include the low res display and the lack of connectivity. The battery life is very good though. A mixed bag then, worth a look for students and educational institutes.
