If you finally want to letthe inner filmmaker out or if you believe that memories need to be stored just as real as they can be, the HG10 is your answer, With the hard disk and connectivity options neatly tucked on the right side, the camcorder has enough space to let your fingers roam though the zoom, shutter and record buttons without "mis"clicking anything. If that wasn't enough, even the eye piece can be pulled out, so that you don't have to ram your cheek into the battery pack to figure out what you're filming.

What makes this camcorder stand out amongst the competition is the four-way key, plus the set button and jog dial that Canon has packed into a sweet little set right next to the LCD display. With one touch you can run through menus and make adjustments without stopping or stalling your filming, and it even lets you focus manually.

Unfortunately there are few things that should have been better thought out. The lamp for filming built into the HG10 is too feeble to be of any real help. Then there is the zoom that takes ages to move; this becomes especially problematic if your subject is in motion. It holds true for high speeds as well, if your subject's trying to catch a bullet, all you are going to get are blurry lines of colour that remind you of high-speed driving after a drink too many.
