With an MRP tag of close , this is the costliest printer in this shootout, but it justifies the price with very good print quality, barring a few quirks. The postcard sized prints are mildly saturated above the original's level and are color neutral (no visible color cast). Details in bright areas of the print come up very well, but in the darker areas, the 5elphy E520 struggles to show fine details. The color gradation is smooth and the ink fill seems solid initially. It's only when you hold the printouts up close, that you observe faint horizontal lines.

Our grayscale image test with 21-step pure black to pure white scale reproduced well towards the white end and but fell short off the mark towards the black end. This explains the absence of fine details in darker areas of the print. Like most dye sublimation printers, the ink film (car tridge equivalent) for the 5elphy E520 comes with a set of photo papers that are matched to suit the ink used. With 50 sheets of paper.
