This Epson is the second costliest compact photo printer in our comparison, a lesser than the Canon 5elphy E520. It boasts of a higher print resolution of 1440 x 5760 dpi, a 3-inch LCD and the stanŽdard memory card reader and Pict Bridge connectivity to print photos without the need for a Pc. Unlike Epson's desktop Photo printer (the Stylus R230), this one does not exhibit any noticeable color casts. But we were able to make out thin horizontal lines across the images when we viewed it closely. Shadows were not very well reproduced either.

This inkjet printer shows details pretty well in the darker areas, but in lighter areas, details are sorely missing. This behavior is a reverse of what the Canons exhibit. Since compact printers are really meant to print photos, there are no quality options to choose from. The cartridge and 150 postcard-sized paper set resulting in an economy of print. If you are looking at a higher print volume and can live with some compromise in quality (like printing photographs for record keeping), this will be a good printer to invest in. But, if print quality is a primary concern, you should consider the Canon Selphy ES20 that is costlier and has one-third higher running cost.
