Sony new Takes LCD TV another level, what's in the water at Sony, butthe Japanese giant doesn't seem capable of putting a foot wrong when it comes to its latest LCOTVs.We've already heaped praise upon Sony's W 400A range, but the ante has been upped by the 40 W 4500. The set uses the impressive Bravia Engine 2 picture processor but¬unlike theW 400A - is 100Hz and features new Motionflow technology, which Sony claims Whatever the figures, the Sony's internal wizardry certainly has a profound effect. The 40W 4500 serves up one of the fmest Full HO, LCD pictures we've ever seen. As you'd expect, the TV is at the top of its game when dealing with high-definition Blu-ray content. Spin Transformers. and it's difficult not to go dizzy with excitement.

Any traces of on-screen noise are banished and you're greeted with images boasting fantastic clarity. Edge definition is rock solid and with Motionflow set to 'standard', the picture looks super-smooth. Special praise has to go to the contrast levels, too. The Sony produces deep, rich, blacks that used to be possible only on premium plasma sets. The Sony is also a solid performer with digital TV. On the whole, images are well-defmed, punchy and colours are balanced. On the sound front, the 40W 4500 uses S- Force Front Surround speaker technology. Sony claims this helps to produce "true 3D surround sound", al though we found the set sounded at its best when in standard stereo. If you want a screen that can make the most ofhigh-defmition content, you'd be bonkers not to audition this.
