THE MICRONET SP5530W IP Camera is an interesting product. While it may not be of use to everyone, if you require a device to help you keep a beady eye on things, this may be right up your alley. It plugs directly into your network, and lets you view images, and listen to audio, over Internet Explorer. You can't use any other browser with it, as it depends on a custom ActiveX control. The camera lets you pan, tilt, and zoom into things. The field of view is quite wide, and things are clear. Looking a bit like a tinier version of R2-D2, the camera can freak people out when you control it remotely.
It packs in a lot offeatures into its little frame. You can set it up to transmit images wirelessly, or through the wired network. The Dynamic DNS client, and PPoE dialer lets it connect to the Internet through a DSL connection, and have a unique name. The video itself is very clear over a wired.
If you need to view it over the Internet, you can bump down the settings a bit to get smooth video. The in-built mic lets you hear people as well as see them. The software is quite comprehensive. You can zoom in, assign set locations, set up motion detection, and even set up recording.

Basically, this device can be used as a full-fledged security camera. The motion detection is especially useful. Up to three distinct zones can be defined, and if the camera sees any motion within those, it will start recording. The recorded files are stored on a standard network share on any other computer on the network. To top things off, it can even e-mail you if you so wish.
As a method to track unauŽthorized access to sensitive areas, or just to make sure your employees are not wastŽing company time, the MicroŽnet IP Camera can be quite useful. It's pricey, but if you need it, it's worth it.
