The iPod in its various avatars has spouted a whole industry of accessories around it. And this one here is the latest addition. Essentially a bedside clock-radio, it's also a dock for. your i~od, and takes on the onus of kick-starting your day by helping the wheels in your brain grind back to full speed after hibernation. With a large white-on-black display and twin speakers with rear bass ports, it comes with a full remote and inserts, so you can use it with the specific iPod model you own. The magnetically shielded speakers allow you to use your iPhone minus the irritating GSM buzz, and can also connect a Shuffle or a non Apple MP3 player via a line-in port at the rear.

It can charge your iDevice and wake you up to the set FM frequency, the last song played on the iPod, a specially created playlist,' or a buzzer...increasing the volume gracefully so you don't jump out of your skin, or your bed. A sleep mode means it can also lull you into a deep slumber, while the eight-step dimmer lets you adjust backlight to a level that's comfortable. The button for the dimmer doubles as a snooze key for the alarm, and is generously sized so you won't miss it when the alarm gongs. You can set two alarms simultaneously, and set the frequency to daily, weekdays or weekends for each. Buttons on the slim remote could've been better laid, though you get the drift after using it for a while. Another niggle is that the radio preset button on the remote defaults tothe first each time. You need to press it six times to reach the sixth preset, even if you're currently tuned to preset number three.
