The Canon PIXMA MX700 is a solid SOHO multi-function device for regular text and high quality photo prints This printer promises excellent photo quality printing and is a boon for those looking out for a device that can be used in offices where photo printing is required on a regular basis. Let's dive into some of the other features offered by this MFD.

FEATURES: The unit has a well built dual¬tone silver and black body with evenly spaced buttons on the front panel. It also includes a 1.8-inch color display to view photos when functioning in PictBridge or card reader mode. Navigating through the printer's settings from the front panel was easy even though it was a little cluttered with text. This device is equipped with front and rear paper feed trays that can each hold 30 sheets. The flatbed scanner features an automatic document feeder, and can scan at 24-bit color depth at resolutions of up to 2400x4800 dpi. The printer has a separate print head and four ink reservoirs. It contains 1600 nozzles (320 for black and 256 for each color) and is capable of delivering prints of up to 4800 dpi using the 2pl (picolitre) technology. Each ink tank illuminates to show that it is inserted properly in the head unit. The test photos were great with vibrant and true-to-life colors when printed on glossy photo paper. You can take prints directly from a digital camera using the PictBridge port or the built-in card reader. Just plug in your camera or memory card and manually choose the printer settings to take the required prints. The manual options include red-eye reduction, photo optimization, noise reduction, face brightening, image optimization and color effects. The special photo print section includes layout prints, sticker print, print all, and an index print to view all your photos on one page.

PERFORMANCE
: The device did not give the claimed 'impressive fast prints' in the test. The results were quite below average (when tested using our own test
document which emulates an average office document) with black prints at 10 ppm using the 'Fast' setting. Check out the results in the table below which highlight the print and copy speeds. When tested on regular text and printed on 'High' mode, the ink seemed to take slightly longer to dry, resulting in smudges in some areas. On the other hand, prints taken on 4 x 6 inch photo paper resulted in excellent photo quality. The only downside is that the printer has a duplex printing option but lacks an automatic duplexer which means that the user would have to manually reverse the paper and put it back into the rear paper tray for double sided copies.

VERDICT:
This MFD is an excellent choice for those who frequently need to print photos. Though it is a bit bulky, it surely saves space considering it is a 4-in-one. FOR: Great quality photo prints, good build quality, fast copy modes.
AGAINST: No auto duplex printing, average print speeds for normal text.
