It's not often that we sit down with a product to test and keep saying things like, "Wow, they got that right, too." But the small, 13.4pound Canon DR-121OC scanner is that kind of product. For instance, it lets you choose the type of scan from a descriptive name instead of a number. It delivers extra flour-ishes despite being one of the least expensive flatbed document scanners available, and it's perfect for a small or home office, or for use as a personal scanner in a larger office. Canon deserves kudos for how simple it makes scanning from the front panel.
The control software for your computer lets you define up to 50 different types of jobs, with each definition specifying a file type (including image PDF, searchable PDF, BMP, TIFF, and JPG). Canon also lets you assign any of the definitions to front-panel buttons. The DR-121OC offers a maximum optical resolution of 600 pixels per inch, which is typical for document scanners. It's rated at a relatively slow 12pages/minute. Except for the problem with business cards, Canon has done a remarkable job with the DR-121OC. If simplex scanning is all you need, the DR-1210C is a terrific choice for the price.
