What is it about cubes and unpleasantness? In Hellraiser, a cube-shaped puzzle box opens a portal to a gruesome dimension and a contingent of demon types come through to rip hapless humans to pieces. In Transformers, the Energon cube is the whole reason that the pretty girl nearly gets splatted. And the film Cube is all about a square-faced structure in which people die in nasty ways.

These cubes, on the other hand,are trying to change the humble shape's reputation. The Disco Cube iPod dock has colourful lights that flash in time to your music, and the Jivebox is an iPod dock with a 5.25in sub, two 3in mid-range drivers and two 1 in tweeters, powered by a 90W amp. Chances are, neither is going to match a standard iPod dock for sonics, but hey - at least using one won't kill you.
