HP.s Photosmart C4388 AIO is a compact multi-function device with good looks. The printer has a well-designed control panel with a 1.5-inch stamp sized color display. A multi-format memory card reader is placed on the front, which could lead to dust settling in the slots as it lacks a covering flap or door. Also featured in front is the wireless networking button, which connects the printer to a wireless home or office network. This is a useful feature to have, as wireless networking technology is taking hold everywhere, and will allow your hardware to meet expanding needs and multiple computers that you might use in the future.

The printer is quite easy to set up, though you can take a long tea break while the software and driver installation happens. The printer lacks a paper output tray, and sends pages flying in the air when expelled from the printer! Make sure you have somebody employed to stand by the printer and catch your prints. Scanning, printing and copying are regular features where this MFD showed average performance. Photos were slightly dull and grainy when printed on HP's Premium Photo Plus glossy paper.

VERDICT: This good-looking MFD can be quite an impressive unit to have at home or in an office. Though photo prints did not meet our expectations, it has speed and wireless networking features which make it a steal for its price.
FOR: Good looks, wireless networking.
AGAINST: No PictBridge, grainy photo quality, no paper output tray.
