A STEP DOWN FROM its big brother the PXC 450, this pair of Sennheiser noise cancellation headphones is relatively more acquirable. In pretty much the same way a Porsche 997 Turbo is more acquirable than a Bentley Continental GT. While these around-the-ear headphones are among the largest in their segment, they can bend and twist more than Jim Carrey in The Mask. The cans can be carried around in a rugged carry case and ship with a stereo 3.5mm to 6.3mm jack plug, and an airline adapter.

In all-black, the looks are sleek, if a bit understated. Think Nightrider. Thick foam lining around the earcups and on the underside of the headband ensure maximum comfort even if you wear these over long hauls. The headphones fit snugly around the ears and passively filter out the noise surprisingly well. The active noise-cancellation feature requires 2 AAA-sized batteries that will last 40-hours a pop. Touted as NoiseGard Advance by the company, it works like a charm.

While it's nowhere as piercing as Bose's QuietComfort3 and less effective than the PXC 450, it still does the job of blocking out ambient noise really well. As a downside, you'll hear a bit of amplifier hiss if you aren't playing any music. The sound quality of the headphones is signature Sennheiser. There's perfect clarity with crisp highs and balanced bass. The mids are nice and punchy too. The sound is never intimidating or in your face.If you can look past the premium price, there isn't much to dislike about these headphones.
