LEAVING NO PATH unexplored, both figuratively as well as literally, MapMyIndia is trying to make sure people don't get lost. What you, dear reader, get are two devices that provide turn-by-turn navigation for 18 cities in the country and around 2,00,000 points of interest across 52 categories - the most extensive coverage we've seen ofIndian roads yet. Well, we tried out one of the devices. Stuck it into our spare BMW 7-Series and went for a really really long drive. To start off, it does take a bit of time to get a GPS fix after a cold boot, but once it does, it holds on to the satellite signal like a hungry baby to a teat. You can mark your home and office addresses, and create your own points of interest, or just select from its own extensive list.
Then just point it to a destination and let the seductive female voice guide you. The volume is a tad soft though, especially if you like to flaunt your in-car music. Also, setting it up is not as intuitive as expected, despite the touchscreen. It suggests the shortest route and adjusts navigation in real time in case you skip the next suggested turn. The device holds great utility for women driving alone at night, and also for people who travel out of town frequently. As far we are concerned, we just like the idea of a gadget telling us where to go! Did we tell you it plays music and videos as well? The price tag may be on the higher side, but it's worth a look if you're one of the aforementioned people.
