The world's smallest wearable cardiac monitor is almost ready at IIT Bombay. This locket-sized heart monitor can store week-long data, is almost the size of a toffee and worn with five electrodes on the chest. Earlier developed cardiac monitors have been bigger in size, as big as a walkman, and the I users are uncomfortable wearing these. ITT-B's monitor would be a boon for cardiac patients, in terms of comfort and prompt detection of the I symptoms.
The monitor has a sensor that detects and records all arrhythmic or irregular cardiac beating, which is usually indicative of heart attacks. Its software is programmed to forward warning data to the user cellphone to send an SMS to the doctor. The monitor can easily differentiate between the beating of an exercised heart and that of a heart suffering an attack.
