EPSON'S PICTUREMATE SMALL-FORMAT photo printers have always stood out from the crowd, but the company has really outdone itself with its latest iteration, the PictureMate PM270. Although the PM270 is the low-cost version of the newest generation of Picture Mates, it offers features I'm used to seeing only on printers that cost far more-from a surprisingly big 3.6-inch LCD screen to the ability to print from a wide range of sources. It's also the fastest small-format photo printer I've seen at any price.

Like previous generation PictureMates, the PM270 looks like a large lunchbox-literally, a box with a handle on it. To transform it into a printer, you set it on a fiat surface and rotate the handle to the back and out of the way. Opening the top cover reveals the controls and LCD panel underneath, and transforms the cover into the paper tray. With small form factor and stylish exterior, the PM270 is especially for users who require printing on the go. With the optional battery pack, the EPSON PM270 allows users to print 4R (4 by 6) lab-quality photos anytime, anywhere.

The EPSON PictureMateT offers a reliable portable photo printing solution by combining the important aspects of quality and speed. This little box of fun churns out a lab-quality 4 by 6 photos in just 37.40 seconds. This is just 0.40 seconds longer than the claim rated time. The PM70 comes with a Micro SD and Memory Stick Duo card slot. If you are using the printer without the PC, its 3.6" LCD screen for navigation comes in handy. Alternatively, users can plug in their PictBridge devices for direct photo printing. Generally, the best part of any mobile printer is its Bluetooth feature.

With this feature, you can give print command from any device with a Bluetooth printing feature like your notebook or mobile phones. Unfortunately, the device I reviewed did not come with the Bluetooth toggle. Retailed as a bundle, the PM270 comes with 150 pieces of 4R photo paper and one ink cartridge (sufficient for 150 printouts). With an average cost of just Rs.9/4R Prints, photo printing is affordable too. All in all, the PM270 redefines what you should demand in a low-cost, dedicated photo printer and also raises the bar significantly for the competition.
