Car CD players may come cheap these days, but what if you already have a
cassette player and don't want to junk it? The answer is a FM transmitter. Featured here, the Intex EUP-802 can be angled so as to fit in a vertical or horizontal cigarette lighter socket. Just load up some good quality MP3s on a SO card or USB drive and it works right out of the box; no hissing, pops or distortion. To give you an idea of how strong the signal was; once the EUP-802 was powered on and transmitting music, even a car parked 50 feet away could tune in to the same frequency and hear the music without any distortion or crackling.
In a way, it's like creating your very own short range FM radio station There are a couple of extras that the Intex EUP-802 offers. For starters, you get an infrared remote control with it (for basic volume and track advancement) which is quite uncommon in car FM transmitters. Secondly, it also has a blue backlit LCD, which displays the frequency it's transmitting at and MP3 tag information (like artist name/track name). Other uses include plugging in an old portable CD player or an MP3
player (using the 2.5 mm auxiliary input). Be advised though, quality of music is only as good as the FM receiver in your car, so if that's busted, you better look at
upgrading the FM unit. And FM's fidelity will never match up to playing an actual audio CD, so audio purists should stay away.
