Satazius is a actually old-school,high-octane shooter as compared to lovers of the horizontal-scrollingshoot-‘em-up are going to love. No game has putted in mind me thismuch of R-Type as... well, as R-Type. You pilot alone ship againsthoards of foes (hmm, that sounds familiar) over large levels withboss fights, stationary and moving foes, landscape to be avoided (andsome of that moves too!), and power-ups a plenty to pick up.
This is one fast and furious game, withbeautiful (slightly retro) graphics, massive explosions, multi-layerparallax and some terrific designs for your enemies. The game isfairly old and only runs in 64-x480 resolution, but I still defyanyone to say it doesn’t look great. The sound effects are well upto scratch and the music is very good.
Crucially, the controlsrespond quickly and smoothly (yes, even when playing on thekeyboard). The game has different difficulty levels, with a settingfor every level of player (I opt for Easy, as I’m hardly theworld’s best shoot-‘em-up player...). There is enough challengeto keep anyone interested, but it’s not so ridiculously difficultas to be off-putting. (The difficulty levels are Easy, Normal, Hardand Insane.)
I simply had a pair of minorniggles related to the game. I would have wished to be capable tochoose my commencing level rather as compared to start at thebeginning each time (unless this is a boast that can be unlockedlater in the game... I enjoyed it but wouldn’t inevitably say thatI was really good at it). Even, your ship always faces the similarway – not a trouble in terms of game play as you can acquireweapons that fire behind you like good, but it only seemed a bit odd(which to be fair only really gets something you notice in certainareas of the game, as you’re normally traveling in the directionyou’re pointing anyway).
If you’re a lover of old-schoolshooters, you’re going to absolutely love Satazius. It’s fast, savage, complete challenge and variety, and has few interestingboasts. A great blast from the past.
