If you don't fancy choking the life out of your computer with uncompressed music, Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a fine alternative. The Ripserver even does the ripping for you, converting tunes into FLAC or MP3 for storage on its internal hard drive. It runs Linux, and is fully compatible with iTunes and all the key media streamers from the usual suspects including Slim Devices, Sonos and Pinnacle. Take your pick from 500GB or 1 TB hard drive capacities.
