The world's best personal computer has landed. Seriously. Available with either a stunning 20 or 24-inch display (tested here) and encased in a drop-dead lush aluminium and glass enclosure, the iMac is an A-list celebrity. Appearance aside, what's most amazing about the iMac is the power it packs. All models feature the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors (up to 2.8GHz), an ultra¬thin aluminium keyboard (wireless is optional), and a built-in iSight video camera. Other need-to-know specifications include 802.11n WiFi, up to 4GB of RAM, 1TB of hard disk space and a choice of ATI graphics cards. It's no gamer but has the potential to be a media king - exactly as it is marketed.

In use, as we've come to expect from Apple, the iMac is an unfettered joy. The screen is astonishingly sharp, supporting Full HD resolutions, and Apple as x 10.4 is up and running in seconds. Media is a remote control click away, offering instant access to iT unes, iPhoto and the like from afar. The bundled iLfe '08 home media software is also extremely potent and user-friendly. And lest you forget. Windows fans: the new iMac's Intel architecture means that it can even run Vista (although you'll have to buy it).
