The Western Digital Caviar (SEI63200AAKS-00B3A0) is a single platter 320GB hard disk. High data density translates to high performance that stays consistent across all applications and offer greater reliability as well. This drive has a standard 16MB cache, rated power dissipation of 7.2 Watts at idle, which is average for desktop drives. The WD Caviar proves its mettle on the performance charts. It aced our benchmarks, with average random write and read being above 86 MBps.
In comparison, the two platter hard disks managed a best speed of about 67 MBps. In our tests it also ran cooler than otherhard disks after over two hours of stressful benchmarking. Though the WD Caviar posts the best time in our synthetic benchmarks, when it comes to simultaneous read and write to and from different areas of the disk, the Seagate Barracuda (ST3320620AS) is the fastest. If you work on large media files, this will be the idea drive to get.
