Ask any professional gamer and he will tell you that the mouse is perhaps the most important peripheral for playing first person shooters. Being the device which is used to aim at your targets, the mouse has to be smooth and steady. Plus, it should also have a good grip to ensure maximum comfort during those long hours of intense fragging. The gaming or 'G' series of mice from Logitech has always set a standard in
comfort and precision. The G9, Logitech's latest offering, is no different.

The Logitech G9 mouse has an exciting array of features which we were itching to get our hands on, quite literally. With a total of nine programmable buttons on the mouse, you can just imagine the kind of features the G9 throws at you. To start off, you have the now customary forward and back buttons on the side of the mouse which can be easily accessed with your thumb. While the mouse supports a maximum setting of 3200 dpi, it can be changed on the go with the help of the dpi control buttons, located under the left-click button. The LED display shows you the current dpi setting, and what's even cooler is that you can change the color of the display.

The G9 uses its onboard memory to store upto five different gaming profiles-a boon for gamers who use different macros for in-game functions. The best part is that you can take your mouse anywhere, connect it to any computer and still use your preferred profiles. The scroll wheel, technically called a 'MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel' comes in handy not only to gamers, but to people who use office applications too. With just the touch of a button on the bottom of the mouse, users can choose between the traditional click-by-click scrolling (useful for gamers while changing weapons) or free spin scrolling (which helps scroll through thousands of pages or spreadsheets in no time).

The G9 comes with two interchangeable grips, thus making it suitable from any type of gamer. The slightly bulkier one is the Wide Load Grip, which has a satin-like feel to it for additional comfort, and the smaller one is the Precision grip, which has a rough surface which helps keep your palm comfortably on the mouse even if you're sweating. The size of the mouse is also ideal as it does not need your whole palm to cover it, or put too much weight on your wrist. Most gamers tend to use their entire wrist to move the mouse in order to explore FPS environments, yet their performance can severely be let down when they are surprised or ambushed since this leads to overshooting targets or flinching in stressful situations.

The G9 however fits snugly in your palm and gives you a better chance of keeping steady. An interesting feature was the inclusion of eight tuning weights-four weights of 4g and another four of 7g. These weights fit into a special tray which can be ejected with a click switch. Weights help by making the mouse more responsive to your wrist strength. While you can fit only four weights or less at one time, you can do so in any combination you like, so there's plenty of room for customization.
