The Acer Aspire IE3440 flaunts what's easily one of the most attractive looking cabinets in the business: it's sturdy and stylish like the HP Pavilion dc7800. Running on Core 2 Duo processor at 2Ghz, 1GB RAM and 160GB hard drive, the machine is one mean performer too, a great match for the HP PC Test.
The Aspire comes with a DVD-writer, which is pretty much useless for gaming in the absence of a dedicated graphics card. The cabinet is one helluva an attention grabber. The Aspire logo on the front illuminates a blue light which looks pretty cool. Unlike other conventional PCs, the front USB ports and audio connectors are located at the top of the cabinet, an attractive perch.
The Aspire IE3440 beats many PCs tested here in the number of USB ports it features. In all there are eight, four each at the front and back. Themultimedia keyboard bundled with the machine is pretty good. The keyboard is also large as compared to others in the test. The standard multimedia control buttons
are located at the top. The machine comes with a three- button optical mouse and 19-in widescreen TFT monitor that is capable of displaying at a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. We thought the display quality was excellentand the colours came through very nicely indeed.
The Aspire IE3440 comes is equipped with 2.0 Philips speakers, good enough for most living rooms so long as you don't try and play it at full blast. At peak volumes it doesn't sound that good. Acer will arrive with a six CD pack of edutainment software for school and college goers. However, since it comes with a Linux operating system, you may need to spend a little extra should you want to work on a Windows platform .. Priced at Rs.28,999 with a one-year warranty, the Acer Aspire is a decent buy for people looking to buy their first machine.
