A lthough there have been many innovations in mouse design, there have been few paradigm-changing breakthroughs. While we were very impressed with Logitech's MX Revolution, it wasn't anything that would give you the goosebumps.MX Air is more like it. Put simply, it's a mouse that work in thin air. The mouse has a tracking technology similar to Nintendo's Wii controllers,so it can pick up its own orientation and movement even it is of ground. Meaning that it can be used like a remote control. Installation was a breeze and it we loved the Logitech RF receiver,a small, inconspicuous USB dongleWhat's more, the mouse comes with its own charging cradle.
lt is just as handy to use as a conventional mouse, though people accustomed to the latter might at first find its shape a bit odd. A vertical track-pad takes the place of the scroll wheel;for scrolling simply run your fingers up and down the pad.The result is no different from what you would achieve with a scroll wheel, but it sure is a clever little addition. I The buttons light up in orange when the mouse is being used, which makes it look good, but the glossy black plastic is susceptible to fingerprints and smudges.
The fact that it continues to work even when you take it of a surface can at first be a little startling;that is until you start enjoying the convenience this brings to your computing experience. And yes you can use it as a remote air brush and draw stuff on the screen! While you won't produces any great pieces of art (we weren't able to get more than a few incoherent squiggles), it's surprisingly accurate and once you have got a hang of it works very well as a remote control, particu larly for Windows Media Center.
The extra buttons come into play here, too - hold down the Vol button and swing the mouse from side to side to change the volume. The MX Air is a very neat idea that will appeal to owners of TV-connected computers, but users who are tied to their desks will be better off with a more conventional device.
