Anti-counterfeiting technology has encouraged a six-fold rise in the figure of customers who have informed purchasing shamed Microsoft software, the software firm says.

Microsoft UK anti-piracy manager Michala Wardell, said the figure of information of faked software rose from 67 in 2008 to 423 a year afterward. "Figures since then are tracking constantly," she said.

The increase in fake-software reports pursues the introduction of Genuine Advantage, a set of validation and confirmation tools that Microsoft employs to defend its Windows XP, Vista and 7 in use systems and Office 2003 and 2007 application suites.
