    Default Pentium 4 overheating

    Hello,

I recently restoredhouse an old pc for someone who had way too much, the config is asfollows:

    -CPU: Pentium 4 540@3.2ghz
    -RAM: 2 GB
    Mobo-home
-Gpu: Low Profile 512MB DDR3 (ATI)
    PSU-home (480w I think)

So I make the Windows installation, everything goes well, thepc turns etc but for some time the cooler is a bouque hell, so I havea closer look and surprise the CPU runs at about 60 ° time (the mobowhen it turns to 32 degrees)! So I looked in the bios but to no availso I thought then change the cooler for another home, you think itwill be enough to silence the noise and bring down the temperature?

    In advance, thank you.

Question brought you already cleaned the ventillo and changed the thermal paste?

If so, P4 Prescott (if your 540) were so well known for heating, in general the majority of thermal pastes were insufficient! It is a worry that contains money.

I had not seen the part about the noise. In this case, yeah, have to change cooler.

Anyway, already with the new thermal paste and cooler home, you should go down to 40 ° at rest with a quiet fan. Supported by cons, it will rise around 75 to 80° and the fan will be a big fat mess. This is the behavior I had on my prescott.

Okay so it's perfect, because the pc is only for internet, music (itunes to put on ipod) and that's actually not overclocking or other So thank you board, I just take a cooler at once I receive it this week.

Anyway thank you for the advice!

    Hello,

I know someone who has a Medion with a Pentium IV 3 GHz and it's very rare that the cooler panics and he does the racket. I say not overclocked but not original. In addition to the normal temperature is 40 ° at rest. So I look for a cooler loose.

A very dirty power supply where it would overheat and it makes the racket. A fan of power supply that gets angry, it makes noise.

Your friend that he spots super heavy?

So cooler or fan of power supply: power supply grid blocked or dirty it. It opens you touch with a brush long enough such flat brush 30 mm to 50mm. and a plastic vacuum cleaner nozzle. No metal, no fingers.
