Default Canon N670U Scanner is not working properly, please help

    Hi There
I boughtthis scanner a few months ago and it was working perfectly til about3 or 4 weeks ago.
My OS is Windows XP. I have been using the CanonScan Toolbox, and abruptly this halted working, saying:
"Impotentto open TWAIN source Please check connection and Then re-startToolbox"
I have attempted a couple of early programs, butthey don't work either, I had attempted uninstalling the scanner andsoftware and that didn't work. I have downloaded a novel TWAIN.dllfile from the net and substituted the one in the WINDOWS folder, andthat didn't do anything.
Even I can see this Scanner in my devicemanager saying that fine and decently installed, and another thing, when I plug it in, it makes a little noise to show that its beenturned on and has started up.
    Does anyone have any othersuggestions??

    Hi,

I have done search and detected somebody who had the error like with a canon scanner. They had detected that they required to add an entry in the path Environment variable inside of windows.

One thing he doesn't refer though when editing the system variable, be sure to put a semi colon ; among the last existing entry and when you write ahead your path. Hopefully it will work for your problem as well.

Hi, thank you for your reply, but it didn't solve my problem till yet. I really don't get it how to solve this, and I dont know if I purchase a novel scanner that that will work. Many thanks for your cause though.

I have uninstalled the software and the actual scanner some times at present and re-installed, and added the path where the twain.dll files are to my Environment variables, but I still get the same error Impotent to open TWAIN source. Please, ensure connection and Then restart Toolbox I have ever tried a different version of the Canon Scan Toolbox.
Anybody have any more estimates? Should I get a novel scanner?

When you uninstall the software from your computer, how are you uninstalling it ? Add/remove programs ? After you uninstall the software from add/remove programs, You will need to check on your C: / Documents And Settings/Your Name /Application Data/ Whatever said by cannon. It sounds like all the cannon software is NOT being uninstalled before reinstalling..

Yes I am uninstalling it through Add/remove programs and then becoming into Program Files and removing the Canon folder . I don't also have a folder called Application Data. I can't see anything else that says Canon. I am going to run a search what comes up.

You have to express hidden files, Double click on my computer, next at the top click on tools, then folder options. Next click on View, now scroll down to show hidden files and put in a dot. Presently, get into C: /Documents and settings/Your Name /Application Data/ check for whatsoever cannon .

Hi, I have seemed for concealed files and found nothing in my Application Data and simply there is a folder called Canon Scan just in my C:/ drive
I uninstalled this and when I reinstalled the drivers again, it asked for the files in C:\CanoScan so I had to kept the files rear so it could copy the files over to C:\WINDOWS\twain_32, but it still doesn't work. I have noticed not all the files are copied over, so I have manually copied them all over earlier but that doesn't work either.

Do you had the Install disk that came with the scanner ? If you uninstall all draws of the master copy setup, and you do a fresh install it should work, but it sounds as cannon has more or less install files that is not being uninstalled, The Twain files should be on the install disk. In the long run it might just be easier to just get another scanner or an all in one printer. The only other way would be to due a total reinstall of all. How long has it been ? You could also try a system restore,BUT you will have to know when this FIRST started.
