Default Move XP files to new Windows 7 computer

I promise this group can help. I haveread everything of the threads I can and cannot realize mysituation. I have a three year old Vaio Laptop VGN-SZ381Pcampaigning XP Professional 32 bit. I bought a novel Vaio laptop(VGN-Z890 3.06GHz T9900 DDR3 250GB Vertex SSD) campaigning System 7Ultimate.

I desire to transfer the files and as many settings aspotential from the XP machine to the Win7. I have them both linkedto a D-Link router. I installed Windows Easy Transfer on the XPmachine. I am quite confident it is the right version.

I thenstart WET on the XP and it yields me a Easy Transfer Key. I open WETwith the Win7 and enter the key. Then strike later on both machines. After about 5 minutes or so (XP takes much longer) they both returnmessages saying they can't find the other machines and to check mynetwork settings.

What backdrops do I examine? By the Win7computer I can realize shared files with my XP machine. Still I maynot create the WET program task to transfer my files. Should I onlyattempt the crossover cable route?

You may be require to Pinch the n/w settings , firewall settings, etc. It really based on the particular setup. Can both machines connect to the internet?

As well as, WET will mostly move your My Documents and favorites. I'm don't know what precisely you require, but if you expect to haul your applications over as well, you might give Zinstall XP7 a attempt - it is supposed to take care of the network configuration by itself, in reality, but is only worth the cost if you are moving more as compared to only files

Thanks for giving reply! Yes, both the machines can link to the internet. I estimate I am mixed up at the network settings.

I did few research on zinstall and it appears pretty unambiguity. Downside appears to be that you finish up with an XP OS on the novel computer. It is not clear that the novel environment will run much faster than the old and with the hard drive partitioned, I may run out of room. I include 85 Gigs to transfer on a 256 GB max on the novel machine and even while I install novel apps that are Windows 7 optimized, I am wondering how they will access the XP partition.

Have you had any experience with Laplink PCMover? They do have a version that provides a USB cable.

I think having the XP stuff divide is an upside, really . This mode, Win7 is free from- so no problem from old stuff, malware and "Windows rot". It's as reformatting, but holding all the apps!

There's complete rights to enter between XP and 7, you may also copy files when switching the "channels", no problem.

About PCMover - I have applied it 4 years rear, when I was acquiring a novel XP PC to substitute my old one, and it worked fine. Still, this time - XP to Win7 - it only won't work, I loose and looked for something novel - that's how I detected Zinstall XP7, happy as then

You will even require a support medium, rather an external hard drive or pack of DVDs. You can even use an easy transfer cable.

To start, campaign the installer for Easy Transfer on the XP Machine. When that ends, plug in the support medium of your selection and run the software. Check what you want to transfer, and select OK.

Wait for the system to back up, and plug the medium into the 7 machine. If easy transfer doesn't load automatically, type click start and type in easy transfer. Specifiy the medium and let it restore your data.

By easy transfer you can restore the following:
User Accounts, Documents, Settings, Music, Videos

    Hope it helps.

I have so soon set up WET with the XP desktop. I am having troubles in linking the desktops by my router. Appears like they have different networks and I can't figure out how to connect them.

As you suggested, perhaps I require to transfer my files using a transfer cable rather as compared to futz around with the network settings.

We all as to believe that these "transfer" plans will save us loads of time, but honestly the best mode I've detected is to only plug a generous-capacity USB stick (2GB or more) into the XP computer and manually harvest the files. It carried out me all of 15 minutes to harvest files for 2 users from my old computer to my novel computer this way. I can't say if this will assist for all plans you might have, but for standard Windows programs as Office or Internet Explorer, here are some specifics:

--Internet Explorer: employ the "export" function from the toolbar to send your favorites and settings to a folder (including directly onto the UBD stick). Stopper the stick into the novel desktop, open IE on the novel desktop, and use the "import" function to harvest them.

--Outlook email: this is trickier, use the "find" function to find your large system folder with the ".pst" extension. past this file into the same place as it lives on your new computer's Outlook files and delete or rename the unused ".pst" folder on the new computer. If you've done it right you will click open "Outlook" on the novel computer and all your mail and settings will be as they were on the XP computer.

--Documents, pictures, etc.--just copy the folders to the stick and after putting the stick in the new computer, paste them into your new equivalent folders.

Sometimes simple, stupid, brute-force methods are the best way to get the job done..

Thank you for these suggestion specially the internet. I have more of favorites and was wondering if I would have to rebuild. I did purchase Lap Link PC Mover..but I had to direct my computer back for a refund.

I am going to wait for the novel models in mid March. Then I will report back on my move

Only thought I'd allowed you experienced I used PC Mover Pro to move all files and relevant applications from a Windows XP Professional PC to a novel Windows 7 Ultimate PC. It worked as an perfect dream, also some ancient applications for which I'd mislaid the original discs ran "good as Gold" on the novel machine. I can totally recommend it, it is brilliant .

Thank you for that. I run my business on this machine. It is support off internet site each day. And while I transfer, I really can't be correcting Quick books for hours.

Are the transferred application programs also registered so that maker updates continue? Or did you have to re-register your applications?
