I also detected significant quantities of contradictory information provided by Microsoft customer support representatives, Microsoft MVPs, and moderators of the Microsoft Answers forums, as well as third-party bloggers, forum posters, etc. Like a Microsoft MVP myself, I contacted my lead, who queried the appropriate teams and operated the clarification/final answer. Hopefully this information will be broadcast via more effective and proactive means in the upcoming months, long prior to legal enforcement.

Windows XP, Vista and 7. It would appear that, in order to create this threat decriminalize, MS would have to 1st stop etailers, retailers, etc. from selling individual media or license kits. While signs in my local store clearly state that the software kits are "intended" for apply on pre-construct systems with the OS already set up, it creates no actual sense to have open shows of these.

To create this work without appearing fuzzy, MS would require to yank all of these copies and create them available only via distributers who complied their rules. This would may be mean that a minimum number of licenses would be required to create a buy. OEM builders purchase in majority and hobbyists seldom would do that.

I agree that the capability to enforce the novel terms is lacking. Still, OEM licenses will proceed to be sold in places such as Newegg in order to accommodate small system builders. The small town shops, people that build computers and sell them online, etc. do not purchase in the bulk standards provided directly by Microsoft to HP, Dell, and the as, creating Newegg the prime shopping ground. Microsoft has stated they will be working with as retailers to show the terms and conditions more conspicuously, but it remains to be seen how the novel policy will be imposed.
