Thread: Suggest RAM and GPU

I am including a Lenovo M57 thinkcentre desktop PC . Please suggest a RAM and GPU.

Please post the PC config. or setup special & post a display scene of the first display. Also whats the wattage of the PSU? I doubt Lenovo will apply any quality PSU. Lastly examine if it have release PCI & DIMM slots.

If there is a release RAM slot, you can setup a stick. Will cost 1.2-1.4k for 2Gb DDR2. For graphics card, first examine if a release PCIe slot is available. And wattage of your present PSU. It will certainly be a generic one. and budget for graphics card. Moreover M57 applies slim tower cabinet. Therefore a low height GPU will be required low – mid range card.

I would guess open your case & first verify that your MB has a physical pcieX16 sloth even the number of existing RAM sloths & config the 2 GB RAM is similarly to be 2X 1Gb eamine this & reply rear thus that we can guess.

Yes I do have a pciex16 slot. I am holding 4 slots for RAM. Now there is only one stick of 2GB fixed. But I do not experience its clock speed. By the way one doubt can I fix a DDR2 RAM of different clock speed along with the present one.

Today I do not experience whether I am asking a foolish question. Can DDR2 & DDR3 RAMs applied together? After all my prime importance is to advance my RAM and plus a dedicated GPU. I apply graphics rich modeling software S.G. I else where detected the full specification of my PC. Once I acquired it I will upload it also.

You can setup identical type RAMs with different speeds together compatibility will base on the Motherboard the higher clock will automatically clock down to match but to mix ram types i.e DDR2 & DDR3 is not possible there r some MB's backing up both DDR2 & 3 but in them you have to setup either one type mixing will not work

For the GPU if your not altering the PSU the max you can go is ATI HD6670(unsure)400 Watt or greater power backup recommended. I feel the a 300-350W PSU is setup in that PC verify that there will be a sticker joined to the PSU revealing the specks. Even please download CPUs from here & post the display shots of CPU& memory tabs. CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting. Also refer your case is a slim tower type or MT type

You have to alter your power backup as 280W is not plenty for your wanted upgrades. You can acquire FSP saga II 400W for ~1900 or corsair CX430V2 for ~2400.msi/sapphire radeon 6670 1 GB GDDR5 card will cost ~5100-5400.

I7 920 is Bloomfield depended 1366 socket processor and you require X58 chipset depended motherboard for it. But the trouble is that processor and motherboard has already reached their end of life and Intel has already stopped manufacturing them. They are today substituted by Intel Sandy bridge depended Core i7/i5 processors. Thus I think you better sell your processor and acquire a Core i5 2400 + Intel DH67BL motherboard. But if you want to hold your processor then acquire the following motherboard:

Even considering Graphics card, like you have asked for a purely Workstation Graphics card, acquire the AMD FireGL V7700 from here.

Your current RAM is 667 type so 800 type RAM will run at decreased frequency of 333MHz rather than 400MHz. Geforce 210 is a very basic graphics card & not recommended. Read this to get a better idea:

P.S.--667,800,1066,1333,1600 etc are not the real frequency of RAM but MT/s rate which is double the real RAM frequency. It should not matter but if I have to afford a advice I would advice setting up 2 older RAM sticks in 1st 2 slots & novel RAM in 3rd slot.

Thanks Cilus for your kind reply, It is extreme sad for me to sell that Jem, when I purchased it there was no core i7 owner almost purchase nor today that much, but It is actually difficult for me to downgrade to core i5. I required to have the coolest and quick video rig for myself...but its time to rethink again, ponder upon the information that hardware market is actually cruel, they would play monopoly each next 2years....and neither we can go against Moore's law....Therefore I better alter my mind. But How to sell this baby?..Who would pay for this? Any guess or platform you require to guess?
