Thread: Boot Problem

Hi, I experience perfectly what I havedone but do not experience to fix it! I was attempting to boot intosafe way applying the F8 method but it was not working; it would onlybegin rebooting from the beginning rear into the normal OS. I thenopened msconfig and ticked the 'safe boot' alternative below the bootini tab, closed all applications and hit re-begin to watch if thiswould work but it did not.


But now I have a trouble because the'safe boot' box is ticked and I can not acquire to it to untick it!Whether I attempt to boot (via F8) into safe mode or normal, thesystem is stuck in a loop of being unable to boot at all. Is there away to resolve this? Any assistance greatly appreciated!

The just thing I can think of is to attempt a system repair..begin the computer from the Windows CD, begin the Recovery Console, and then apply the Bootcfg.exe tool to rebuild the Boot.ini file.

In answer to your question, I was being an idiot! I picked up a 2nd hand PC game which when I acquired it home discovered is just compatible up to windows 98 and therefore rejected to set up. Including done some googling I followed a suggestion that if setup it in safe mode then it should work once I booted rear into normal mode.

Whether it would or not I am past caring about now lol.. My XP disc is with the other slope of town and we have just been covered in snow thus it might be a couple of days earlier I can acquire it! Once I do I will be certain to follow your advice to the letter and will report rear......thanks again!!

The trouble with the game however does not explain why you can not boot into Safe mode, thus may be we can even deal with that when you have your XP disc.

Later a bit of explore into the "Safeboot missing" trouble it appears highly likely this was caused by an infection. Is that game a burned copy or the original disc? If it is an original disc then you are may be not septic but if it is a burned copy it may have an infection added to it, did it arrive from a trusted source?

Once you have run the bootcfg /rebuild command and acquired Normal way to operate again, you can apply System Restore to go rear earlier you attempted to setup the game and that should fix Safeboot.

If later that, booting into Safe mode stays possible, then your trouble should be above, but if Safe mode returns to being unserviceable you should begin a novel thread in the Malware forum to acquire the system cleaned, or do a complete format and re-setup of XP.

Mark...the game appears as the original to me, I picked it up in a charity shop. The game setup trouble I had in the first place has been reported elsewhere by XP customers which affords me some confidence that the disc is clean. Including not attempted safe mode for a long time, any infection could have arrive from elsewhere. I will watch how I acquire on with the boot rebuild followed by a system restore and go from there.
