Default Proper differentiation among 'backup' and 'storage' drives

I antecedent posted questions on thistopic. It was pointed that 'backup' and 'storage' drives wereseparate entities. It looked that 'backup' was for backup/restoreonly, not storage/access of individual files. Data could be backedup, then restored like a complete when needed. Still, with severalvendor's sites, reference was created to a 'backup storage drive'.

Probably the difference is in theapply to which the product is initially dedicated, either storage orsupport, but not both. Are their differences in formatting, software, etc.? I am confused once again.

Do not acquire lost in the schematics of it all. Any media device that is NOT your primary storage becomes a additional storage or support. It does depend upon your main utilization of said device. Depending upon the software applied should more clearly supply the total solution. If your primary storage craps out, I am certain you will apply whatever is present to restore few status of a working system.

This is where the software arrives in, if primary apply is storage, then bits of data or sub-folders or directories will be rescued. If applied like back-up, then hopefully, it will be restored to the date of that back-up. Thus, you decide how you design to apply that ext. storage or back-up device. In which case, you will then apply the software that best reflects said usage.

My problem now is to detect a backup drive that functions with my specific Wi 7 computer; Lacie Rugged XL does not.

It seems that once we remove said software it is a drive as any other. The LaCie software looks to be not compatible but the drive is alright.

Better ext or additional storage devices commonly render few software package that is part of the complete bundle. Although many do like stated, many are only basic or minimal. Others, have better software as Acronis, Seagate, Norton, and Cheyene, etc.. to name a some.

You can even purchase separately such software as well. If you purchase a separate software apply or also freebie or demo of shareware generally works on whatever you deem like ext. storage. Your Lacie should be simply supported, deemed by source and destination areas.

The product is supplied on software that does not work with Windows 7 64 bit thus it is not supported. But the hard drive is nothing particular once we turf that software.

I have downloaded most recent software repeatedly, to no avail. I have 'argued' with lacie for months regarding this trouble, to no avail; they cut me off when I rejected their demand to mark the trouble like 'answered' (what a joke). I had supplied them on everything the pertinent information.

Have you examined MS website to detect what they say about compatibility of lacie drive with win 7? Lacie rejected to do this. May be HP has sold me a defective computer. There can be no other answer, seemingly.

The Lacie software is surely broken with Windows 7 64 bit the last time I watched it. And since it is only another USB HDD later we cover that software, not a full loss.

I am now acquiring reminders to backup my data looking each time I begin up. This is actually bothering sine the drive is not realized. Do you think I can detect other compatible software to create this drive functional? Please recommend if possible.

If the titles I referred are not reliable backup software programs then I am in problem also.
But once you understand what every application is and how one differs from the other you may view it a backup. I view a backup something that I can apply to restore my FILES. I never care also much about the OS and Apps. Those are readily available.
