Default Most low-cost type to acquire nexus s

A friend of mine is asking me of the cheapest method to get a Nexus S. First, let me explain the back story, my friend renewed his contract with around 1-2 month ago and he got a G2 for it. It is already past the grace period for return headset(I think it is within 30 days) so he would be stuck with G2 unless he get Nexus S without contract. He said he is having some problem with the phone and he plan on call up the warranty to get a new one. He is considering selling the new one he got from exchange and use the money to buy a nexus s without contract. Is there a better method?

Unless they re-instate the extra fee next time. I believe this phone will have the same requirements as the Nexus One. Sell the G2 on craigslist and buy a Nexus S. Or post an ad to trade the G2 for a Nexus S. Honestly i do not know why he would want the Nexus S over the G2. The G2 is better IMHO.

I imagine that it would based on if there is a Best Buy ETF and a T Mobile ETF. I remember with the first Nexus phone you could cancel with T Mobile within the 14 day grace period to avoid the T Mobile ETF, but since Google never charged their ETF for canceling the service before the 6 month period you got the phone for about 200.00 if I remember correctly.

The Nexus is nice as hell, but something about not having an external sd slot is deal breaker for me. If your phone goes completely bricked or fails to power on at all, is there anyway to access the internal HD to retrieve whatever off or are you SOL? Guess you would have to constant synchs with your computer to keep from losing as much if this was to happen. WTF was they thinking not putting an external SD slot on what they know for a fact is a developers phone.
