Default Best current-technology processor on a budget?

So if I’m going to be improvement my computer from an 8800GT to an ATi HD5870 (vapor-x) next week, then I may as well promote other bits of my system too. I appear to improve every two years and in those two years I frequently misplace touch with the market rather. I presently have a Q6600 2.40 GHz processor and I suppose it is possibly quite dated now. It does seem to grip itself alright, but if I can obtain even more presentation for a logical amount of money, I will.

I will perhaps also have to obtain a new Motherboard, if not for presentation, then to recognize the crazy alien technology socket that arrives with the new core. So if you could suggest a board for the core that would be great! I have been inspection out the P55 UD5, but it in fact only supports three types of processor, and I’d actually rather not limit myself so much, no subject how fantastic the board seems (unless it's worth it of course).

I plan to acquire the processor disjointedly from the core, so I would like the board to be approximately 150 as well. The P55 UD5 does really fall within that margin.

How do you sense about overclocking your Q6600 on that Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L? You should be up to attain 3.0 GHz which would make it VERY spirited will all the new decency out there.

A £15 aftermarket CPU cooler and fairly of work in the BIOS is all you'd require to use. Will a 5870 fit within your current situation? What power supply will you be employing?

Some quite on a straight cooler and OC the crap out of that Q6600 even as saving up for a 1366 or AM3 system around Crimbo.

I believe 'crap' begin over 3.2 GHz. Many Q6600s have been recognized to reach 3.6 GHz devoid of problem.

I have been considering OCing it really, but I wasn't certain if it would be value it.

I'm quite certain the 5870 Vapor X will fit inside my case, it is an enormously old basic case, but it is also enormous and very roomy within. There is enough room between two hard drives in the HDD bay area to lodge a very long card.

As for my PSU, I have a 600W. Will that be sufficient?

Have you calculate it yet? 600W is in the ballpark but 600W and 3 years old? What create and model. How many PCI-e connectors?

Since those models of Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme will also fit a 1366 and AM3 socket you'll be capable of obtain it forward into your next scheme? It's the type of cooler you'd decide for going for a 3.6 GHz overclock.

It is ~11.8 inches from the harbor window at the rear to the hard drive rise shaft at the front, that is sufficient from what I’ve been analysis for the orientation card, and the V-X is evidently a little shorter.

As for the PSU, I have no plan what build or model it is, I obtained it a while before and can't memorize where from.

Possibly the similar 11" size from the just unrestricted data; SAPPHIRE Vapor-X HD 5870 1GB Video Card Pictures and Specifications.

That’s some attractive "old basic container" if it has 11.8" of GPU permission. Some of the more contemporary gaming cases resist handling the 10.5" GPUs.

What do you signify by how lots of PCI-e connectors? The 6-pin cables for the card's straight power nourish? It doesn't have any coming straight from it; I have a molex-to-6pin cable providing my 8800GT. If that's what you signify?

You'll have to double up on the molex-to-6pin PCI-e cables then.

Luckily, the 5870 isn't as much of a power hog as some other, older GPUs.

See if there are any markings, names or sequential numbers on the PSU to assist you recognize it - you should be OK but it's always secure to check these belongings out.

In addition if you're reclaiming your Tuniq tower for a prospect construct, you can do the similar with a new, solid PSU now too.
