It's humorous you state that, I factually now dismantle an old Dell Dimension (Pentium II swineflu version) and within it is a nice grimy Rage 128 AGP lol. I guess it isn't that funny, but enormously accidental, I had to post back just say to someone.

Finest gamble to shun more problems, just part out that pc and start new with a new case and increase. One object I found motivating that you did not check is the hard drive just cause you have to employ it to try and boot consistently, I memorize way back having a trouble like that with an idea 100gb western digital, run for a bit then would in excess of heat and shut down. Replacing the hard drive is the last obsession on the list, bit of a hassle having to reinstall windows but may solve the trouble, if that doesn’t work, then it won’t go to squander, an extra drive is forever fine.

I’m heading for now obtain the mobo beyond the case and attempt to test it that mode. Other proposals were to attempt another CPU fan or it could be the power switch. Worst container it will be a bad CPU or bad mobo. Not certain how I can check those two though. Would Fry's electronics can diagnose mobo/cpu and tell me if they are bad?

I have obtained the switch from another computer and associated the POWER and PWRRESET wires and utilized that as the major buttons. Yet the similar result. Turns on for pair seconds then turns off. I believe I have ruled almost all out apart from the case itself. Maybe something ios shorting but cant observe anything. Tomorrow ill obtain it out and place it on a cardboard box and perceive if it works then.

The cause I desire to stick with it is that it’s a very fine executed modded case. But if it doesn't work out I may just have to place it in the secret and do what you optional.

The hdd's I believe are ok. Those I detached at the very foremost sign of stoppage. As soon as I obtain the machine working they will be reconnected. Again I am not still able to position so booting to an OS is not my matter at the instant.

I will breadboard it the next possibility that I acquire. I will attach PSU, CPU, HSF, video card and that’s it. I'll attempt it with and devoid of RAM and perceive if what occurs.

Another object I thinking of, rather random (and not probable)...you may have a short in a system connection or a wire in your container (for example the power switch) causing volatility.

I am yet rather perplexed how this can be occurrence to yes, after switching so many mechanism! I admire your endurance to continue working on this one and I expect you pinpoint the matter soon!

Well I acquired some time and I bread boarded the system. It’s on a wood desk and linked are the PSU, CPU with fan and block, 1 attach of RAM, video card, mouse and keyboard. Turn it on and yet the similar thing. Stays on for a second then turns off. I just don’t observe how this can be happening with two different mobos. Could two mobos have the similar defect? I’m grasping at straws. Could the PSU be bad yet though I already tested with another novel one? What are the chances that both are bad? The RAM I removed and the similar thing occurred. I yet used the power switch from another appliance. What could it be? I’m tempted to test one more PSU and totally rule that out.
