Default Dual Xeon vs. i7 975 or wait for gulftown?

I recognize that this question has conceivably been asked before, but each person that asks appears to have such exact applications.

Here's my situation: I desire to build a system that will can render HD video, program HD video, render 3D designs, and edit images as fast as possible according to my financial plan (It would be a bonus if I could play a few games on it too).

I've been thinking of getting a dual chip system for instance dual quad core Xeons, or getting a single chip i7 950/975. The reason I would think the 950 is because I heard the gulftown was going to fit the LGA 1366 socked, so I could promote to that in about a year or 2, thus expanding the life of my machine rather then spending extra cash on the 975.

I want to use about $2-3K on a completely new system. The only thing I will not require is a monitor or optical drives as I am scrapping my old machine.

So 2 Xeons or 1 i7? Advices for GPU, CF, SLI? MB? RAID and HDD? Good amount of RAM?

Are these behaviors (video encoding, depiction, etc.) for professional points? Keep in mind high-end Xeons and i7s simply price over $500. The i7 920 or the i7 870 should offer enough power, while leaving you with enough cash to purchase good components and peripherals.

With your large budget however, I'd suggest the high-end i7. Yet, think saving money, so you can choose a multiple monitor system! That's a definite output booster!

Yes, this for professional consequences. I work many with marketing departments and make HD commercials, 3D animation, special belongings, graphic/web design etc. I observes that what actually slow me down is the rendering times. If I could cut down that time, I could be that much more creative. Also, I do have numerous 20"-23" monitors, but I suppose you actually can't have too many!

    Hi

Don’t stint on the memory, the more memory the improved. Also running a pair of hd's in raid will absolutely help speed belongings up.

The Gulftown will approach in the Westmere server edition the Xeon 5600-series.

So, a twin socket motherboard will provide you more headroom for future growth.

This construct appears great! I'm not so certain that I akin to ATI GPUs though. I'm sure it's well, but I've run into some matters with ATI cards formerly. I'm thinking about addition a Blu-Ray burner, a multi-card reader and maybe 2 more HDD to the mix. I wonder where I could skimp. Maybe I should purchase 2GB sticks of RAM in its place?

The present X5500 setups are quite badass. You should obtain a Dual CPU system. Actually, I have a good system up for sale on eBay. If you are looking for something might desire to ensure it out Lenovo D20. I think for a good cost you cannot beat that deal. Just create a good offer.

I have already told him that in another thread where somebody was in search of a dual xeon workstation (I really copied and pasted this construct from that thread since they had the same financial plan).

Yeah, that rather presents a clash of interest. I am place in building my own workplace.

To everybody else: Thanks for being so obliging. I'm going to take mindless's formula and employ it as a guide. I'm hoping someone can corroborate that I have everything I require and that all is friendly for my construct before I order. It's just nice to get corroboration so I don't end up with a PSU that doesn't fit mismatched memory, overlook a heatsink/fan/cooling, etc.

I actually be thankful for everyone's time. I expect to have my list posted later today.
