Default Which to buy Core2 Quad Cache: 8MB or 12MB?

Improving from Core 2 Duo to Core 2 Quad. Motherboard Asus P5W DH Deluxe, 4GB RAM, Sapphire HD5770 video card.

marveling if I should acquire the:

    1. Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W or

    2. Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W.

There are those who speak that further than around 6MB of cache, there are small, if any, differences in presentation.

Cost wise, the Q9400 2.66 6MB is around 0, and the Q9550 2.83 12MB is 0. So what actually does the purchase me in terms of real-world presentation? Very small? Or Large?

I'd understand hearing comments from the conversant folks here.

    Thanks in proceed.

On lga 775 platform, hoard has considerable significance but if I were you, I wouldn’t purchase any of these. The platform is old edition. Sell your mobo, CPU, ram and construct a new configuration. it can be i5 platform with ddr3 ram. Why not?

Extra hoard will only actually show its muscle in output applications like video editing, depiction ect but not much collision on gaming.

    I wouldn’t trouble with a socket 775 any longer.

set the money to either a AMD AM3 system with a 965 black version - will price you the same as a 9550 and is quicker or a i5 750 1156, mobo and several ddr 3 ram as it is faster than the 9550 and is more prospect proof.

Socket 775 is nearly end of life now.

If you are heading for improve your present system, obtain the Q9550 particularly if you plan to overclock it. With the 5770, that should make bigger the lifetime of your system additional 2 or 3 years.

But he could vend his present board and chip etc to lift the money for a 1156 board and add several dash for a 750 and ram. Anyway it’s his option and has been known these choices.

I'm just coming at it from a simple "Either/Or" viewpoint on the assumption the OP doesn't desire to take the whole system apart and reconstruct.

Either way, this promote takes your system up to one of the best gaming machines obtainable. Which is what I hear all the time recently? Why would he tear apart his system to go AMD when he would require new ram, motherboard and perhaps after market heat sink and not have any more presentation accessible than what the Q9550 will give him. Almost the greatest Intel 775 quad made? Used computer parts don't obtain very much? Unless you desire to stay posting your auction repeatedly.

Thank you all for headfirst in to assist me think through this. I'm bummed that Microcenter (brick and mortar only) has the 9550, which is actually the acknowledged vendor of pc parts.

However, it is what it is, there's no Microcenter close to me and I can't acquire to the 2 closest ones, and they don't ship. There we have it - Microcenter's deal is a no-go for me, unluckily. So I now have the similar $190 versus $260 choice.

Yes, those of you who wrote that there's small enticement for me to rip out my motherboard, buy novel RAM, etc. I'm just not up to it. This is droning along well as it is with my Core 2 Duo. It'd be nicer and will possible have a longer life if I place a Core 2 Quad in it with an Arctic Cooling cooler in it. I'm eager for something akin to another 2 years or so.

For a moderately "light" consumer, I'm actually marveling if the extra $70 of the faster processor w/more cache will be completely exhausted? The link to that contrast is super useful, btw. Thx so much for only if it.

The q9550 is yet a VERY capable CPU. And if you want to widen 2-3 years beyond that lga775 system I'd say the q9550 is your CPU. Believe about it this way, yeah its $70, but you're heading for be keeping this system as a minimum 2 more years, so actually the cost isn't that bad. Advantages the q9550 will OC politely sufficient with a nice HSF.
