If you desire to prevent other consumers on your network from accessing your shared data but still desire to be able to obtain to it yourself over the network here is how you do it. Windows XP Home employs Simple File Sharing, which denotes you are sharing all or nothing and offers little safety and configuration.
Right click the folder or drive you desire to secure and decide Sharing and Security.
Enter a share name for your folder or drive and place a dollar sign ($) at the end of the name, for instance photos$. Then click Ok and you are done.
Now the folder is concealed and other network consumers won’t be able to perceive it and it won’t humiliate in My Network Places. The only method any one will be able to see the folder is if they recognize the name of the folder.
For you to be able to observe your hidden folder you require to map the drive and type in the path to the share counting the dollar sign in the Folder box.
