Default Essential User: I7-860 or I7-920?

I believe an I7-860 vs. i7-920. I'm not a gamer. This pc will be utilized for basic tasks, email, MS office programs. I do have 3gigs of music and desire to rip my complete CD and Album library. I also have plenty of pics and some video that I control from time to time. I'd akin to not buy a new computer for the next 3-4 years. With that said... which will provide me the best presentation and durability.

Hi everybody, I read question so, I like to reply about that what I know. They both sound similar to overkill for what you've planned. An i5-750 will suit you just well at a part of the price.

The systems are coming with 8 GB of Ram, 1TB Hard drive, and 1GB video card. Do I really need 1GB video card since I'm not gaming? And the 8 GB Ram - I form would be good.

Both platforms P55 and X58 are well. If you don't plan on overclocking go with the P55 (i7 860 or i5 750) they will be a slight quicker or just as speedy for less cash with less heat and use less energy.

If you desire a more complete comparison you require realizing each component before we can assist you with the best box worth. But just seeming at the processor and cost differences you won't go mistaken with any of those.

You don't require a 1GB video card but the price dissimilarity between a 500MB and a 1GB VGA card is less than $20 when that choice is obtainable. You require finding out what model the video card is. It’s all about the video card model, not how much memory it comes with.

First of all, thanks for the replies.

The video card on all three systems is 1GB ATI radeon HD 4650 I have the selection to obtain an NVidia and other ones but does it create much dissimilarity if I'm a non gamer?

    For the I7-920 says 2.66ghz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 Cache, 8GB DDR3-1066mhz SDRAM (4 dimensions)
    For the I7-860 says 2.8ghz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache, 8GB DDR3-1333mhz Sdram 4 dimensions.

    For the i5-750 2.66GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache, 8GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [4 DIMENSIONs]

    1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
1GB ATI Radeon HD 4650 [DVI, HDMI, VGA]

    option of:
LightScribe 16X max. DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive
Blu-ray player & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner
Blu-ray writer & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner

since I don't watch movies on my computer. Just non consumer video & Recording editing and Picture treatment I'm thinking I can just match the light scribe and not blu-ray.

For what you’re doing no you would not require a 1 GB card as almost everything you'll be doing will be utilizing the CPU than the gpu. If the standard X58 and P55 motherboards had included graphics i would just suggest using that in its place.

Also, 8 GB of ram is very big. Even today’s gaming computer usually only have 4GB to 6GB of ram. (Depending on set up.)

Although, if your deficient to save some money and have a controlling sufficient system down the road to fit your requirements.

I would suggest an AMD Athlon II x4 (620 or above) or a Phenom II x4 (945 or above) , 4GB ram, a low end gpu or integrated graphics and a 500+GB HDD. This should suit you require quite fine.

Don't let the video memory misinform you. The 4650 is not a very sturdy card; it’s only value about $60 on it’s possess. It’s good for high definition movies and some light gaming. The video memory does not inform you if it’s a good or bad card many vendors will place 1GB of memory on a bad video card to create it sound better than it is since ram is inexpensive.

So for what you described a 4650 is not essential but it’s not overkill either. I would focus on choosing what the correct processor and ram are for your needs.

I concur that the i5-750 would be best for your requirements; I would only consider going up to an i7 if you were running some a lot multithreaded apps. So unless you’re actually serious about video editing and rendering I would attach with the i5.

Ok so sounds akin to i5-750, 6GB Ram, 1TB HD and expanding to 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 220?

Last question: it was suggested to go with an AMD 620 or Phenom II 945 +, is there any major dissimilarity as to selecting Intel over AMD? The AMD systems are arriving in about $150 - $200 less so I desire to believe them only if they give comparable presentation (for what I do).

Also, HP or ZT Affinity? Am I paying more for the HP name and status or is ZT Affinity an ok choice? My last desktop was constructed by a computer guy, so does it actually make a dissimilarity?

6GB of ram? I don't think there is dual channeled 6GB attaches arrive in 1,2,4GB attaches for your requirements i would go with the cheaper amd you don't do anything on your computer so an inexpensive amd would be well together with 3-4GB of ram.

As others have said a video card aren’t wonderful and powerful just coz it has 1 gig of Ram in it.

I would also possibly would not desire to go less than a 4670 videocard and a i5-750 should be over you want so no point in paying more for the i7-860.

If the costing wasn't so crazy presently I would obtain a 2 TB Western Digital Caviar Black drive (seems akin to the quickest non-SSD hard drive on the market) and unless you can obtain one at obtainable price I would in its place go with the Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Black Drive.
