If you have suffered a major computer collide and do not have any backups your first consideration should be en route for recovering as much data as probable. Retrieving your old Outlook Express mail from your computer will need that you swap out the hard drive in the computer into a functioning machine allowing you to pull as much data as potential from the old drive. Instructions

Step1

Eliminate the two screws situated on the right-rear of your old computer's case and slide off the side panel.

Step2

Unplug the two cables from the back of your hard drive which is situated at the face of your machine close to the bottom of the case.

Step3

Unscrew the hard drive by eliminating the two screws holding it into place and pull the hard drive beyond the unit.

Step4

Toggle the jumper situated on the rear of the hard drive to the "Slave" setting. Consult your operating manual if you are unsure of how to do this for your exacting drive model.

Step5

Open your new computer utilizing the same process that you utilized to open your old computer.

Step6

Install the hard drive into the drive bay at the face of the machine and screw it into place.

Step7

Connect the IDE and power cables to the hard drive close the case and turn on the computer.

Step8

Right click on the "Start," menu and choose the "Explore" option. You will perceive the hard drive from the busted computer as the "D" or "E" drives permitting you to open your old Outlook Express program and discover your missing mail.
