There are products that shout out loud off the closet even when you visit the most orthodox retailer who tries to keep his products well out of the reach of the customers by tucking them in the farthest and darkest corner behind the great barrier reef of their counters. The Zebronics ZEB-Z500 multimedia speakers are exactly the kind we
are talking about, which come in a wicked red-coloured avatar. However, once you enquire about their price point, you will definitely demand for a demo!

A simple corrugated box with the trademark loud Chinese design is a testimony of a budget product. The Zeb- Z500 are well-built and not hollow with resounding cabinets like other moderately priced brands, and are protected by a non-adhesive protective film. On the other hand, the burr on the edges is clearly visible and the overall size and shape of the speakers don't come across as appealing.

There is one speaker with the volume control and amplification system while the other speaker is relatively passive. So the USB power and the signal wire first come to the speaker with the volume control and then an output goes into the second speaker. All this is hard-wired leaving no room for any flexibility, portability-wise.

In the absence of any rechargeable battery in the speaker unit, the speaker system constantly needs a feed of power. There is no power supply that can feed the speakers from the mains. So either one has to permanently allocate a USB port from the computer or buy a USB power supply from the market. What amused me was the exceptionally generous 200W PMPO specification on the Zebronics website. This very specification raises doubts over the rest of the specifications and also about the research and design capabilities of the company. The drivers are directly facing the listener and the cabinet has a slight tilt to facilitate the angle of incidence towards the listener.

There is a transparent protective strut across the driver to save it from accidental poke as well; however there is lot of space below and above the strut that a pen- The speakers are smaller than the conventional multimedia speakers, agreed; but their boxy form and maze of wires that cannot be disconnected make them more or less a fixed asset. In fact, you will have to warp the wires very carefully and protect the speaker*drivers from the USB and the earphone terminals in case you plan to carry them somewhere.

We powered the speakers with the help of my mobile phone charger and connected a music source to them. We had kept the volume of the source at about 80% and that of the speaker system at 60%. The sound that came out of the speakers was blaring, loud and high in distortion. However, the sound became bearable and clean when both the volume controls were tweaked to If you want something to keep murmuring into your ears while you are working, then the ZEB*Z500 is good enough for you. almost 50% of their capacity. This accounted for the rest of the range to be a false promise. However, the sound here was somewhat decent and good enough for listening to the music for less than 15 minutes. If you want something to keep murmuring into your ears while you are working then the ZEB-Z500 is good enough for you~you can't expect any serious stuff from these babies otherwise.

If you are really budget-strapped and need something small and eccentrically different looking, then the Zebronics ZEB- Z500 multimedia speakers with 'ear*dropping' 200W PMPO power is the candidate for you. However, if you value quality, we would suggest you ignore this micro-driver technology driven speakers and go for something more conventional.
