Samsung’s best-known smart phones areAndroid devices as the Samsung Galaxy S, but in the background it hassoftly been working away on its own Big - powered phones. Big is anOS produced by Samsung, for Samsung phones, and the Wave 723 is onlythe 3rd instrument applying the OS to strike the market.

The original Samsung Wave represented astriking begin for the Big platform. Metal-bodied, Super AMOLED -screened and powered by the same Hummingbird processor as the SamsungGalaxy S, it wasn’t the ultra-accessible budget instrument fewwanted to release beside Samsung’s own smart phone OS. The SamsungWave 723 is what outcomes when all the fineries of this first Big phone are divested away.

Gone is the ultra-bright WVGAscreen, replaced by a non -AMOLED 240 x 400 pixel model, the cameraholds the 5-megapixel sensor but can’t match the Wave S8500’simage standard, and the metallic end has been scaled down to a meremetal rear plate atop a plastic body. Family resemblance apart, thesephones are intended for different purchasers - the Samsung Wave 723has its eye with the budget contract or pre-pay customer.

Tomask these cut-price origins Samsung has attempted to class-up thephone on an unusual bundled accessory, the leather flip case. Anelective extra, this case covers the Samsung Wave 723’s displaywith a leather-clad flexible plate that’s fastened into analternate cover for the bottom of the phone’s rear. An odd USP, buta USP besides.

While it affords the Wave 723’sscreen the plus protection we applied to watch in not-much-missedflip phones, it mostly fails to reproduce that cigars-and-mahoganysensibility of class it feels to point towards - the titling of therest of the body isn’t up to the task.

The phone’s bodymisguidedly applies four different hues of black and Grey. Samsung’sstaple shiny black for the front, silver for the phone’s slopes, adarker silver for the bottom part of the rear plate and a still -darker fleecy metal for the metal battery cover. This patchwork ofshades leaves the poor Samsung Wave 723 looking as if much less careand care was put into its plan as compared to few of Samsung’sother phones, often highly regarded for their feels.

The metal rear plate does notcompletely delete the slightly cheap look of the plastic - bodiedphone, either, which is far deleted from the dense and compress bodyof the original Samsung Wave. Earlier you accuse us of harking rearto unfair comparisons, view that today, nearly a year on from theWave S8500’s release, both phones are available for free with thesame low-end contracts from some carriers.
