With a pleasing blend of style and functionality, the Samsung U900 Soul manages to live up to its name. Not many phones in the market blend aesthetics and good specifications so well. It has a touch pad as well as a regular tactile numberpad for dialing and text input. : The U900 has a firm slider and a 2.2-inch screen with 16 million color support. This does justice to the amazing pictures captured by the 5 megapixel camera. The captured videos are surprisingly clear and the camera tackles the problems of shakes and jerks pretty well. It is blessed with a powerful flash as well as autofocus and can capture pictures at resolutions of up to 2592 x 1944 pixels.

The audio recorded during video shooting is a bit of a letdown but this is covered up by all the plus points that the phone's camera has got going for it. The keypad gets locked every time the slider is closed, so make sure you don't slide it down while in the middle of some important task. The keypad is convenient to use, even for those with stubby fingers, thanks to the large buttons. Using it with the slider open isn't as troublesome as it is in case of previous Samsung sliders.

The U900 Soul has a cool touchpad in place of a regular D-pad that allows for interactive touch control. The color of this interface can be changed to suit your tastes and to match your theme or wallpaper. There's just 129 MB of internal memory that comes with the phone but this can be scaled up to 8 GB thanks to the microSD card slot. MP3 playback with the built-in speakers isn't as good as that on the headphones (as is the case with most phones).

It also has FM radio with RDS. Browsing the web is easy, thanks to the EDGE and 3G support. Other connectivity specifications include support for A2DP Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0. There's no WLAN support to be found here though. This may prove to be a drawback for the U900 because of the competition it has to face. The phone is available in silver and pink. The battery life is satisfactory. It provides enough power for up to 6 hours 30 minutes of talking and 407 hours of standby! Don't miss the brilliant light show introduction that plays when the phone starts up and shuts down.

The slider is firm and doesn't make the silly clicking sound that most slider phones have. The touch pad is great to use and so is the number pad. Shooting videos in landscape mode may prove to be a little inconvenient. The keypad gets locked and the application terminates the moment the slider is closed. This can hamper video shooting and other tasks.
