For those who seek a top line photographic experience seamlessly integrated into their mobile phone, here is Sony Ericssons offering; one from their exclusive line of Cybershot mobile phones ¬the K550i. However, photo enthusiasts won't miss Dut on other multimedia features as these too are well embraced by this one. Encased in a stylish body, the handset feels good to hold and has a solid ut compact feel to it. The camera is simply the best in its class. It's a 2¬egapixel camera with a photo light and digital zoom that includes the auto focus feature. Auto focus ensures that the subject of your photo is firmly in focus, leading to noticeably sharper images. It also includes features like in-built image doctoring and picture blogging. The lens is protected by a cover and to activate the camera software you just slide this cover down. Along with the lens, the cover protects a small self portrait mirror.

Twin LEDs provide the flash as well as double up as a fairly effective torch, which you can set to stay on for a minute or turn on and off manually. The image quality is good with strong colour definition. An application called PhotoDJ lets you fiddle around with some aspects of the images including altering the light balance and contrast and having a stab at red-eye removal before applying effects, frames, and such to the photographs. Beneath the screen we have a round navigation button and semi-circular buttons at the edges of the handset for accessing the Internet and the Activity Menu. The buttons are smaller than most Sony Ericssons, but are not so difficult to use as they are well spaced out. Between these and the navigation button are oblong shaped buttons with concave arcs. At their top ends are the soft menu buttons, and at their bottom ends, the Back and Clear functions. As is often the case, this arrangement looks pretty nice.

The phone delivers on the music front too. It includes a FM radio as well as a music player. Sound quality is excellent, much as you'd expect from Sony Ericsson. The K550i is compatible with stereo headphones and Bluetooth wireless stereo headsets - both are available as optional accessories from Sony Ericsson. The K550i comes with a TrackID music recognition feature which allows you to find out the name of the group or artist and the name of a song, quickly and easily. Besides regular applications including e-mail and RSS support, on the multimedia side of things you also get a video player, VideoDJ for editing movies shot with the handset, and a blockslider puzzle game.

Bluetooth and infra-red are both built in. There is 64MB of memory built into the handset and you probably won't be surprised to learn that the expansion format of choice is Sony's Memory Stick Micro. The slot is on the left edge and protected by the battery cover. The phone comes with quad band technology which provides the user with worldwide network coverage dependent on the network operator. The
K550i is a mobile Internet phone and comes with EDGE technology, which provides fast speed data transfer and downloads which are approximately three times faster than GPRS transfers.
