Sony makes great gadgets and the TZ37 is yet another corker. Ignoring the high price tag for just a second, this carbon-fibre clad lappy has it all. There's a DVD drive, loads of connectivity options, a ULV processor, a two-gig wedge of memory, and WiFi. The 11.1inch, LED-lit screen is a cracker too, showing off an impressive range of colours in DVD movies and Windows.

Best of all, it's incredibly portable, yet has a massive, six hour battery life. It weighs just 1.2kg and is only 22.5mm thick at its narrowest point even the power adapter has been shaved to reduce size. For such a small machine, it's sturdy, too, with reinforced hinges and a lid that doesn't flex at all.

The style-conscious will bray with delight to learn that the TZ37 comes in a choice of three paint jobs, too. However, impressive as all this is, that price hurts like being repeatedly poked in the roof of the mouth with a cocktail stick.
