Default Potential recovery for exhausted HD?

My boss plugged the wrong power adapterinto her outside hard drive. Smelling of burnt plastic, it wouldappear the drive is exhausted. I brought the drive out of the caseand attempted to link within a desktop, but the desktop would notpower up with the drive linked.

I even attempted with another externalcase, but again it will not power up with the fried drive within. Isit possible to acquire few HD tools and switch the platters toanother hard drive?

A platter swap is an enhanced data recovery technique and should only be done in a particularly equipped clean room by a trained technician. This is fairly much a previous resort in data recovery. The opportunities of doing this yourself scope from slim to none, but closer to the latter. Luckily, this is perhaps not necessary. Do not try to open the drive. You should wait for advice from members with experience in this type of trouble.

Tiger chip bring good pics of the hard drive controller board both slopes so you have to delete it with small torx wrench. Be certain to be grounded like static discharge can damage elements if you have access to a ground strap apply it to ground your body to prevent static discharge.

You have acquire fortunately and just the TVS diodes acquired blown and we can assist acquire the drive spinning to recover data. This is not a try to FIX the drive for long term apply thus you understand the scope of the project.

I did not mean to leave this matter hanging, but I am awaiting the exact tools we ordered: a Torx set and static guard. I will post pictures as soon as potential.

I do not experience if a straight board swap will work. Few Samsung boards have distinct, drive particular information in flash memory. In your condition such data would be internal to the Marvell MCU chip. If you do not have any slope cutters or flush cutters, then you may be capable to apply fingernail clippers. In any case, to answer your question, no, I do not experience where to buy a replacement board.

Later acquiring this board working is very vital to retrieving the data from the hard drive, I had rather not apply nail clippers. Can you recommend flush cutters that would acquire the job done? There is not much room to maneuver thus the board, and the adjusts I detect online everything appear to have bulky cutters.

Excelling is the brand that field technicians apply, but there are affordable options. Seem for something with flat, pointy jaws instead of rounded jaws.

I applied to repair expensive multilayer PCBs. If I required to substitute a faulty chip, my standard practice was to apply flush cutters to snip every pin close to the body of the IC. I would then delete the body, wet the pins with the PCB with extra solder, and then desolate them one at a time. Whenever possible, I ignored removing the IC in one piece. There was much less risk of damage to the PCB by doing it that way.

Well it brought forever to acquire a soldering pen, and the one we eventually acquired could roughly burn paper. But I handled to melt the plastic with the 12V TVS diode and cut off the rest with pliers. Success! The hard drive did not work in it is external casing, but worked when I linked it within a desktop. I instantly transferred the files and my boss is a happy camper. Can I presume it would not be safe to leave the hard drive in the desktop?

Not with the diode separated the drive has no above voltage protection if you had a daily support I would have another response but I do not think that will happen do you ? Purchase a novel drive or novel diode. View yourself or your boss a lucky guy go acquire a lottery ticket wish for the best in the future. Marking this one solved.
