Thread: Removing the cause of sulky response of laptop

A though rear I read that slow responses of PC's/laptops was because of "crud" being present. The process to remove this was never disclosed while it was suggested that a defray would solve everything ills. This was not thus, I re-installed Windows and carried out a def-rag but the laptop however runs slow. Can somebody please explain in detail what can be done to overcome the trouble of the mysterious "crud"?

It is no surprise that thing is so slow. A 512MB is pitiful for today's applications, and I bet your on-board mobile chip is allowing some of that for itself. Go to on the Crucial website and stick in your laptop model. It will say you compatible RAM.

Your laptop can no longer cope with the additional demand placed upon it by everything the windows updates and the newer more demanding web content and more complex web browsers to consider this.That is my thought anyway, basically the software has evolved into something your hardware can no longer cope with.

I actually appreciate your advice and will do like you suggest. Acquire at least 2GB but 4 if you can with your model laptop. Yes applying 32bit windows limits you to about 3.2-3.5GB usable memory but I would ever acquire 4 over 3GB any day. You do not refer your Anti Virus - some of these can slow any system down!

The dv5000 is, from memory, not so tough a machine to physically clean. If the fan is loud, frequently a much more of real crud has gotten caught up in the heat sink, insulating it and stopping it from breaking up heat.
